Sharon came to Seattle sixteen years ago to attend the University of Washington Law School and has been here ever since. House hunting brought her to Wallingford – the tree lined beauty of 40th just couldn’t be beat. Since then, she has practiced law, written some short stories, taken a detour into project management, and started a family. She currently works for a large Redmond software company and has moved to another home in Wallingford with Scott, their two children, and cat. She came to write for Wallyhood through her friend Jordan.

Shenanigans be gone – Super Nanny Casting Call

Sharon April 9, 2010 Comments are off

Calling all wild childs! The casting director for Season 6 of the ABC show SuperNanny is looking for families, and she’ll be in Washington this month. If you’re interested in learning more about the show, want to “try out” or nominate another family (wouldn’t it be strange – or feel free to insert your own adjective here – to be “nominated” for this?), contact Vanessa Ranko at VanessaRanko@ gmail.com.

And if you’re a SuperNanny newbie like me, here’s a little snippet on what they’re looking for.

Alphabet Soup Children’s Books is hosting the local band, Harmonica Pocket, this Sunday April 11th at 11:30am as they celebrate Dr. Seuss with their special show, “Get Loose With Seuss!” Dr. Seuss would have turned 106 years old on March 2nd —  and local band Harmonica Pocket has put together a concert of original music set to Dr. Seuss books:

Come down to the Soup and sing along to Dr. Seuss’s ABCs, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and other selected books. The band will also present a theatrical history behind the creation of some of Seuss’ best-loved …

Alphabet Monkey Soup…Mmm Mmm good

Sharon March 15, 2010 1 Comment

Alphabet Soup Children’s Books hosted the rock’n local kid’s band, Recess Monkey, last Saturday March 6th. The news about the concert must have spread far and wide because this sweet little children’s bookstore was jam packed when we arrived a few minutes prior to set time.

I stood outside with about twenty other parents, bopping my head and tapping my feet to the boisterous rhythm as the band started off with Moon Boots, from their most recent album, The Final Funktier. My son, along with a few other kids, quickly and stealthily made his way inside, illustrating the amazing reptilian …

Mutt Mitts comin’ our way

Sharon March 4, 2010 8 Comments

Good news on the Mutt Mitt front. I’ve just found out that our request has been approved and a work order was submitted this week for the return of our Mutt Mitt dispenser. In the next week or two, it will be installed at the NW entrance of Wallingford Playfield at 43rd and Woodlawn. For now, the Parks Department will regularly check the dispenser and re-stock as necessary. I’ve agreed to follow up with them in a few months to see how it’s all going.

Please still continue to bring your own plastic bags to pick up after Fido and …

Wallymom – There’s a Monkey in my Soup!

Sharon March 3, 2010 Comments are off

Some of the basic staples of our family outing calendar are going to local book stores and hitting up live music shows. So guess how excited we were to hear that we can do both at once this Saturday at Alphabet Soup Books!

This fabulous local children’s bookstore is featuring a free live concert with Recess Monkey at 10am Saturday March 6th. The band will be performing all your favorites from the new Field Trip album plus all-time Monkey classics. The S0up will open early on Saturday at 9:30am and will also be providing refreshments pre and post-show should you …

Amores Perros Update

Sharon February 19, 2010 19 Comments

As a result of community feedback on my last playground post, Amores Perros, I contacted Seattle Parks and Recreation with our request for a MuttMitt dispenser for Wallingford Playfield. I’ve been informed by a communications manager that due to budget cuts, the Parks Department will not be able to accomodate all requests as they have in the past, but he has put it to the attention of the grounds supervisor so it is now officially under consideration.

I’ll provide an update once I get word of the decision. Until then, thanks to all for your care and concern for our …

Break-in at Quizno’s?

Sharon February 18, 2010 3 Comments

I stopped by Quizno’s for a little diet pepsi and saw some wood paneling (where there should have been glass) on their front and side doors. The sandwich artist on shift said that the store had been broken into last Monday night/early Tuesday morning – cash and food were missing. I didn’t get much more information than that, so let us know if you’ve heard anything else. Hopefully, the sammies will be safe going forward.…
