Wallingford’s Newest Gastropub is Yoroshiku

I was a fan of the classy restaurant Yoroshiku 4649 when it occupied only 1913 N 45th Street. Over the summer, they expanded to occupy the space next door (1911), where Tea House Kuan Yin was. They are now called just Yoroshiku, and that’s not the only thing that is different. The decor has substantially changed. The entrance has moved to the newer side, which is a bar, while the older side is more like a restaurant. The bar side has…

Now on Stone Way: Thackeray Cafe & Bar

With the opening of Thackeray Cafe & Bar, the last empty retail space on the street level of the Brooks Building is now full. My wife and I stopped in on a recent Monday to give it a try. As it happens, we had been to Thackeray on the previous night to check out the bar and conduct an initial reconnaissance. While they have an extensive list of cocktails and a wine list, we were in the mood for beer. Too bad…

Jazz and bacon

Brunch in Seattle? Hour-long waits; cold coffee; over-priced food; the cacophony of unruly children being ignored by hungover parents. There's nothing like it! Thankfully, there is nothing like this at the Seamonster Lounge's Jazz Brunch. Instead, my wife and I were treated to smooth music and friendly, prompt service. We didn't see a single child there (although they are allowed in the space up to 9pm). Brunch is served Saturday & Sunday 10am - 3pm. The time of music varies depending on Seahawks…

Calling all readers, writers and contributors…

In this day and age of online interactions, it's oh so commonplace to collaborate with people that you have never meet in person. And so it is at Wallyhood. Editors, come meet your writers! And readers, come meet the folks who put Wallyhood together day in and day…

Restaurant News – Wallyhood Edition

Here is a small list of restaurant changes in our hood. I snapped this picture of Bar Charlie in the newly finished Bowman Building. It's not open yet, but it has a Facebook page. The Brooks Building will be getting a new tenant in the retail space that faces N 35th Street. I saw an application for a liquor license from the Heavy Restaurant Group posted outside. They operate Purple among other restaurants. Yoroshiku, a favorite of mine when it comes to ramen,…

27 Years of Changes

Wallingford's only gay bar Changes celebrated its 27th year. Opened in 1989 on North 45th Street and still under the same ownership, Changes embodies all that you love about old Wallingford while at the same time being very new. I spoke with owner Floyd Isaac recently and I found his opinion on just about everything to be quite laid back. While many of us are worried about all the changes to the neighborhood, Floyd takes everything in stride. Here are the results of…

Drinking at the movies

The Guild 45 theater has an application for a liquor license posted. Drinking while watching a movie has been the norm in Europe for years, but it's a relatively new thing here in the states. Seattle has its own share of cinemas that serve beer. I popped my head in to the Guild 45 to ask for more details. Employee Dylan said that the notice has been up for a while and they were just exploring the option of serving alcohol.…
