University Fitness: Bankrupt

I've gone to University Fitness (45th and Roosevelt) for nearly a year now. After noticing that they hadn't charged me for my February membership, I asked the owner's wife about it on Monday. She told me that she already knew about the issue and it was just a glitch in the system--one that they would soon fix. Stopping off at the gym yesterday for a workout, I found it empty, the doors locked, lights off and a notice taped to the door essentially stating, "We…

Seattle Youth Garden Works shutters its doors

Seattle Youth Garden Works, a local charity that provided at-risk and homeless youth with garden-related jobs skills, has announced that it is ending operations due to budget shortfall: Seattle Youth Garden Works (SYGW) would like to thank our community of exceptional friends, volunteers and donors for the support we received throughout 2009. No more Pupu!

We just spoke with Tony, the owner of the Luau, and confirmed what tipsters like Maya have been telling us: tomorrow night, Tuesday, is the end of an era for the Luau Polynesian Lounge in Tangletown. "It was just time," Tony told us. "I'm 35, my wife's 36, we've been at this for eleven years now, we're starting to think about having kids, and it's just time. You know, when you start to think about all the things you could do…

Wallingford Photo Snaps Shut

According to their web site, they've been there since 1986. They were also one of the sponsors for our first photo contest back in January 2009, for which we are very grateful. Sorry to see a good business go. Back in December, we speculated that we might see more shop closing after…

Tradewinds Blows On

Tradewinds, the little shop nestled under the stairs in Wallingford Center that sells imports from India and environs is closing December 31st, according to the Wallingford eNews. Until then, they're having a 30 - 50% off clearance sale. We wonder whether other shops will struggle on through the holidays, then give up the ghost?

Hard Hat Tools

Tomas writes: Heya - Your Gypsy Java article reminded me of this tidbit: The Hard Hat Tools place at 35th and Stone moved out completely just before the weekend. Wondering if they folded or just moved? We would be sad to hear that it's gone, but, honestly, we never even knew it was there. Apparently, it was a great place to get your Paslode gas trim nailer repaired. Hard Hat Tools, we hardly knew ye.
