Opportunity to Attend Mayoral Briefing on Search for New SPD Chief, 30 September

I was writing a long, meandering diatribe about property crime in our neighborhood. Short version: lots of small businesses are getting trashed, and suffering the consequences of covering repairs while trying to stay in the black in an increasingly difficult business climate here in Seattle. We can talk more about that later. But what I really wanted to tell you is that Mayor Katie Wilson has taken a lot of flak for the way she handled the aftermath of the tragic…

A First Look Inside Max’s Burgers, Coming Soon to 45th & Corliss

The following article was submitted by Krystal Garfield and Sunita Richardson. Bringing retro diner charm, playful dog-inspired details, pinball, patio seating, and a deeply local spirit to the former Kabul space in Wallingford. By Sunita Richardson & Krystal Garfield On the corner of 45th and Corliss, where commuters pass through, families grab a bite on the go, and college students drift in looking for something quick and satisfying, a familiar Wallingford storefront is preparing for a lively new beginning. The space…

The Tale of Two Streets: Why Have Stone Way and 45th Street Developed Differently?

As a resident of Wallingford for my entire life (just over 17 years), I’ve always enjoyed walking down Stone Way and along 45th Street. Each street contributes to my home’s Walk Score of 95, making it a “Walkers’ Paradise,” where most errands can be done on foot. Lately, I’ve wondered why more housing has been built on Stone Way than on 45th Street.   This question led me to look more deeply into the knobs and levers that control a neighborhood’s…

Lincoln High School ChainLynx Robotics Team Marching in the Wallingford Parade

As one of the organizers of the 2026 Wallingford Parade, I was intrigued when first-time registrant ChainLynx Robotics, directed by Joshua Myers, LHS CTE teacher and Engineering & Mechatronics Coach, signed up to march in the parade. In reviewing the registration form, it became apparent that this was a special group of Lincoln High School students. I have previously reported on other groups at Lincoln, but these have been sports-related, so I wanted to find out more about this robotics group.…

Free Stuff Here, Free Stuff There, Free Stuff Everywhere

It is with the same golden-hued filter that some remember catching fireflies in jars on warm summer evenings, or building snowmen in the winter, that I remember Bulk Trash Day in New Haven. Oh, it was glorious. One day a year, the city invited everyone to put out the garbage that wouldn’t fit in a standard trash container, and lo, the treasures that could be found. Every street was a scavenger’s daydream. What could be better than Bulk Trash Day? Buy…

New Banners, Who Dis?

A walk, saunter, or waddle down 45th feels a little different today... something catches my eye. It’s purple and green and a little jazzy and wasn’t there last week! I spy with my little eye some new banners announcing the upcoming Wallingford Parade on Saturday, July 11, at 11 am. Ron Waldman, our resident banner guy, worked hard on a recent sunny weekend to get the neighborhood looking festive before the big day! Many thanks to Blake Garfield and his son…
