Jean Godden Improves Move Seattle for Wallingford

Remember the walking tour to fix the Move Seattle Levy? Well, it had an effect- Jean Godden added this requirement to the final Move Seattle Levy language:

Develop plans and complete improvements to enhance the NE 45th St Corridor for pedestrians and cyclists between 4th Ave NE and Brooklyn Ave NE by the time University Light Rail opens in 2021.

The Question: The Move Seattle Levy includes adding cycle tracks on N 50th and Green Lake Way N. Those cycle tracks are in the Move Levy according to SDOT director Scott Kubly because we are paving those roads, and the bike master plan has cycle tracks on those roads. Unfortunately, those cycle tracks are already obsolete, having been designed to connect to a planned cycle track on Stone Way N that was removed from the Bike Master Plan at the last minute due to neighborhood push back. Move Seattle: Wallingford Shows the Council They Care

We had a GREAT turnout for the Move Seattle levy “fix-it” tour on Sunday! About 50 participants showed up as we toured paths from Wallingford to the U-District, mostly people from Wallingford. Seattle City Council Transportation Committee representatives Jean Godden, Mike O’Brien, and Tom Rasmussen all attended, and news stations were there as well. For a wonky tour of neighborhood greenways and an I-5 bridge crossing that’s a great turnout!

Seattle City Council Comes to Wallingford on Sunday

Seattle City Council Transportation Committee representatives Tom Rasmussen and Jean Godden will be taking part in the Move Seattle levy walking tour happening this Sunday at 11 AM in Wallingford and the U-District. Mike O’Brien is also on the Transportation Committee and is a maybe (it’s his wife’s birthday), plus candidates running against Jean Godden for Seattle City Council District 4 will be attending.

Move Levy Isn’t Fixed, but SDOT Will Visit Wallingford

The mayor’s final Move Levy proposal was released, but unfortunately nothing has improved for Wallingford despite the levy growing from 900 million to 930 million. Here is the map, then the proposals:

On the map grey is paving, yellow is safety improvements to Aurora, blue is bike master plan implementation, and the red targets are seismic upgrades. I added the numbers and aligned them with the numbered project list below. Descriptions are from SDOT via their project list plus what you come up with when matching the blue lines to to the Bike Master plan:

Move Levy Investments Don’t Fit Safety Data

Wallyhood requested safety data for Green Lake Way N and N 50th because the Move Levy targets those streets for a cycle track. We also requested safety data for 45th street because SDOT is not investing in connecting Wallingford to the U-District. Here’s the safety data from Brian Dougherty at SDOT (thanks Brian!):
