Community Center / McGinn Reports?

Last week had interesting events in Wallingford (besides the Winchell's - Rancho Bravo affair): Thursday's Community Center Meeting and Friday's visit from mayoral candidate Mike McGinn. We were able to attend neither. We're hoping some of our more civicly responsible neighbors did, however, and that we might prevail on them to post notes, thoughts, or impressions in the comments section of this post, for the benefit of ourselves and our readers. Thanks in advance.

CORRECTION: Mallahan at Chamber Meeting

  • Post author:

Hey, we goofed by posting the info about Mallahan's visit to the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce Meeting tomorrow (Thursday) morning. It turns out that while the meeting is always open to non-members, that's intended for non-member businesses, not the general public. So, if you're a business that has always been thinking about checking out a Chamber meeting, this would be a great one to come by and check out, since Joe "The Synergator" Mallahan will be in house. But if you're…

Alcohol Impact Area

Those of you who live near I-5 and 50th Street are likely painfully aware of how the city's Alcohol Impact Area (AIA) boundaries have impacted Wallingford. In 2006, the city voted to designate several areas around the city (most of Downtown, Belltown, the CD, the ID, Capitol Hill, and the University District) AIAs, where the sale of the type of cheap, high alcohol malt liquors favored by the alcoholic homeless would be illegal. The unfortunate side effect of this act was…

Transfer Station Update

As we've reported here in the past (e.g., News from the Dump and Dump Update), the city's efforts to update the Solid Waste Transfer Station (aka the dump) at 34th and Carr is making slow headway in the face of resident law suits. Here's the latest, courtesy of Cole Gainer and cribbed from the excellent Wallingford eNews: The King County Superior Court recently affirmed the Seattle Hearing Examiner’s 10/20/08 decision that an environmental impact statement is not required for the North…

Vote

Remember, you have until tomorrow to postmark your ballot for Seattle's primary and special election, including your vote for Mayor and for the plastic grocery bag fee. We held an unofficial straw poll for Seattle Mayor of our readers. Here are the results of the 87 votes cast: Interestingly, while 87 people have voted in our mayoral poll, 113 voted on our Wallingford t-shirt design suggestions. This is not out of line with the generally tepid response commenters had to the…
