Boat Fire During the Air Fire

Shawn sent this photo of last night's boat fire on Lake Union, just down from Eastern Ave NE. According to KIRO, the fire started from illegal fireworks at about 10 pm last night and damaged 14 boats for an estimated $1.5M in damage: Witnesses saw a firework land on the boat cover of a Master Craft on the second level of the storage racks. [Cory] Crosby used the boat lift and pulled the burning boat out of the slot in the…

Happy Fourth of July

Happy Independence Day, Wallingford. Today's the day we get to play host to the rest of the city and beyond. Give your driveway parking spot to a frazzled minivan full of kids from somewhere up north. Pull your sofa out into the middle of the street and share it with someone…

Initially, there was some speculation that the district would open an annex for incoming 6th graders at the John Marshall site on Ravenna Blvd. in Green Lake; however, that idea was taken off the table. Still, there are capacity management issues that remain, which will not only impact the school building, but also the traffic and parking around the…

Truly Targeted

In response to our recent post that the medical marijuana dispensary at 45th and Corliss, Truly Helpful Collective, had closed, but that we weren't sure why, Rhysling posted a link to this Slog article, which gives some background: Eleven medical marijuana dispensaries in Seattle received letters from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration yesterday, ordering them to shut down within 30 days or risk having their properties seized. Details on the Seattle dispensaries targeted by the DEA come from Kiro: They all received letters…

Free Pizza

Lots of shops offer "buy one, get one free" deals. Ho hum. Yawn. Zaw, however, has a lovely, community minded spin on it: We often get inspired by our customers, like when one of our favorite regulars at Zaw called us to arrange for a pizza and bottle of wine to be delivered to their neighbor... just because! Well, that little gesture tickled our fancy and hit on a lot of the values all of us working at 'zaw adhere to…
