Millionair Club

Got some work that needs doing around the house? Wallyhood welcomes a new sponsor, just in time to get some help working through that summer job jar: At the Millionair Club Charity, we’re rebuilding the lives of unemployed men and women in our community by offering day labor jobs to help them restore their confidence, earn some cash and build their résumés. Typical jobs we fill include housework, yard work, landscaping projects, window washing, painting, handyman chores and moving help. You can change…

Wallyhood Backup

As a bunch of you noticed, we had some slight technical difficulties here at Wallyhood this last week. We upgraded one of the components of the site, which apparently broke the RSS feed that creates the daily email version of the stories that go out. For about a week, everyone who visited the web site was enjoying Wallyhood, and everyone who was waiting for their daily email was not. We got it fixed, and sent out the backlog of stories that…

Golden Olive, Truly Helpful Close

Earlier this week, Andrew wrote: I just walked past the mmj coop on Corliss and it looks like they're out of business. All the signs are gone. We dropped a line to the Truly Helpful Cooperative, the marijuana dispensary he's talking about, for more details but didn't hear back. We'll be curious to see how the city's many dispensaries fare once a medical prescription is no longer required to buy pot at a store later this year. On a related note,…

Tully’s / Moon Temple to Be Demolished?

On July 15th, The Seattle Department of Planning and Development will be holding a design review meeting to consider a permit application to demolish the building at 2100 N. 45th St, presently housing a shuttered Tully's, Radiant Medspa and the Chinese restaurant / dive bar Moon Temple. The plan calls for the Velmeir Companies to build "a one story commercial structure with mezzanene [sic] , containing 11,076 sq ft. of retail and accessory spaces, with surface parking for 25 vehicles". Curbed notes that…

Wallingford Family Parade & Festival

Make way for the Kiddie--ahem, excuse me--the Wallingford Family Parade and Festival, which kicks-off at 11:00am on Saturday, July 6. Now in it's 64th year, the parade is one of the longest running Seafair sanctioned community events. The snazzy new name and logo reflects Wallingford's "collective family" of neighbors, businesses, schools, and organizations. This year's theme is "Wild For Wallingford!" and while kiddies still play a big role in the parade, you'll see all sorts of participants, including an Asian Small-Clawed Otter…

Seafair Summer Fourth at Gas Works Park

When it comes to the Fourth of July, Wallingford residents tend to fall into one of two camps: those who love the swarm of people converging on the neighborhood, and those who think the traffic, crowds, litter, and cars are an absolute nightmare. Personally, I love the neighborhood vibe on the Fourth but have never had the urge to venture south to Gas Works Park to catch a closer glimpse of the festivities. I'm fine with hanging out on the hill, mingling…

TheLAB Brings Crossfit to Wallingford

While at Gasworks Park, I recently watched in amazement as an average-looking guy inverted himself and proceeded to do handstand push-ups. Several of them. Which I can tell you is 100% more than I could do without ending up in a neck brace. I suspect I might not be the only person in Wallingford whose muscles could use some beefing up. Which might be why theLAB Strength and Conditioning recently opened a new fitness studio at 36th and Interlake. TheLab owner Lindsey wrote:…
