This is a sweet, evolving school with many happy kids and involved parents and we wanted to share some of that energy with the community. Please consider coming by to chat and let your kids play at the new super awesome…

Wallingford’s Weekly Film Festival

When I was younger and childless, I use to make a point to go to several films every year at Seattle International Film Festival. Many of the movies I saw were documentaries. Over the years driving across town to a SIFF cinema and waiting in line became less appealing, and it was one of those activities that just dropped off for me. Little did I know that every Friday in Wallingford, I could get the same experience and more. Rick Turner…

Wallyhood Calendar: Carr, Low Tide, and Om

Get up! You're missing your 8:30 AM Saturday monthly meeting with our school board director Sherri Carr! Bethany Community Church - Christian Education Building, 8023 Green Lake Dr. Saturday also features the warmest weather of the year coupled with one of the first negative low tides during the daytime this year. We walked from Golden Gardens to Carkeek yesterday and saw a beached seal along with other good stuff. Except I think the seal might have been dead. Anyhow, Low Tide! Saturday night there's…

Move Levy Isn’t Fixed, but SDOT Will Visit Wallingford

The mayor's final Move Levy proposal was released, but unfortunately nothing has improved for Wallingford despite the levy growing from 900 million to 930 million. Here is the map, then the proposals: On the map grey is paving, yellow is safety improvements to Aurora, blue is bike master plan implementation, and the red targets are seismic upgrades. I added the numbers and aligned them with the numbered project list below. Descriptions are from SDOT via their project list plus what you come up with when…

Covering apples is an easy and effective way to foil insect pests like codling moth and…

2015 CSA Round-up (abridged)

Ah Spring! The season when we can finally lift our eyes from dreary salads of bagged lettuce and styrofoam tomatoes and dream of the tender greens, blushing rhubarb and sweet, all-the-way-ripe strawberries that will soon be heading our way from Washington's farms. I'm not talking about the California-style industrial operations; I'm talking about the 'little guys' all around the Puget Sound region, who farm like they give a damn and go the extra mile to sell their just-harvested produce directly to you. I'm talking…

District 4 Debate: A Blow by Blow Report

On Wednesday, the 43rd District Democrats hosted a debate between the four candidates for Seattle City Council District 4. An audience of approximately 150 people gathered in the Roosevelt High School theater to watch Seattlish’s Sarah Anne Lloyd moderate a fast-paced, 90-minute exchange between Jean Godden, Rob Johnson, Michael Maddux, and Tony Provine. The debate was divided into five sections: opening statements, moderator Q&A, lightning round, audience Q&A, and closing statements. Godden began, a little uncomfortably, as she was unaware that…
