3 Years of Mosaic Coffee

Wednesday was Mosaic's third anniversary.  For those of you who don't know, this is a coffee house where you decide how much you want to pay.  And they've been doing this successfully.  For three years.  Kind of restores your faith in human nature, doesn't it? Mosaic is located in the basement of Seattle First Church of the Nazarene, on 2nd Ave and 44th Street,  right behind Dick's.  It's slightly dark and very spacious with lots of old couches, armchairs, heavy tables,…

They’re back!

It's official, the pledge drive to bring back the Lake Union fireworks in 2010 has crested the $500,000 mark. They're back on. See MyNorthWest.com for the tally. This still leaves a question mark with regards to the 2011 fireworks display, which is unlikely to get the same pledge drive activity, but hey, that's next year. There's a healthy debate going on in the comments section of our last Fireworks post as to whether this is money well spent. Hear what your…

Wallingford Weekend Roundup

There's plenty going on in honor of Easter this weekend (see our Wallingford Easter weekend round-up), but there are some non-bunny related happenings, as well. Here are some quick highlights: Music and Dance Zachary Watkins and Tiffanny Lin : "Movable, long commutes between loved ones, music for motors and resonant strings is the elusive yet evocative title for the new composition by Bay Area composer Zachary James Watkins. Maybe Fireworks After All?

There's a chance we may get a fireworks display over Lake Union after all (see Fireworks Canceled). Microsoft and Starbucks have offered to match donations of $125,000 each, and dozens of businesses have stepped up to the challenge. As of this writing,…

No Fireworks at Gas Works

Sounds like Wallingford won't have to fret about porta-potty shortages and marauding crowds of patriotic partiers this Fourth of July: One Reel has announced that there will be no fireworks display over Lake Union this year. From their web site: For the past 15 months, One Reel has worked tirelessly to secure a title sponsor for the 2010 Family 4th at Lake Union but, regrettably, we were not able to secure one in time to proceed with this year’s event. For…
