Big Blog Meet-up

No, not this big ol' blog, Big Blog with two Capital B's. Monica Guzman, the Seattle P-I reporter behind their flagship Big Blog is holding her regular, rotating Big Blog meet-up here in Wallingford at Trophy Cupcakes tonight, Wednesday, starting at 5:30 pm (just as the Farmer's Market is winding down and just before Art Walk winds up). Monica has been on the frontlines of "new media" for some time now, blogging and serving on the advisory board of the UW…

WCC Meeting

We know it conflicts with your art walking, but this Wednesday evening also has a Wallingford Community Council Meeting: Of particular note to all Wallingford residents, the meeting includes a presentation by the Seattle Police Department and One Reel about plans for this year's 4th of July Gasworks Fireworks and associated neighborhood impacts. With the Elliot Bay display canceled this year, traffic and attendance are both expected to be heavier than in the past. SPD and One Reel want to share…

Roald Dahl

One of our fondest memories from childhood has us in our bed in the upstairs of a 200+ year old farmhouse in western Massachussets, flickering kerosene lamp dancing patterns on the spider cracked ceiling, while my father read to us from an old, broke-spined Roald Dahl book. Not, as you might think, James and the Giant Peach or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Rather, Dahl's adult fiction: creepy tales like Lamb to the Slaughter (where a wife, at a loss how…

Art Walk

As you may remember from the recent Date Night post, tomorrow, being the first Wednesday of the month, is Wallingford Art Walk from 6 - 9 pm. There will also be a live band, Ruby's Basement Jazz Quartet, playing at Wallingford Center from 6:30 - 7:30 pm…

The idea is to get park visitors to pack out their dirty diapers, sandwich bags, empty beverage bottles, orange rinds and other trash. The city wants that stuff to go into home garbage cans - or, when appropriate,…

Art Walk Date Night

Pssst...look, we hate to tell you this, but we were talking to your partner the other day, and it kind of sounds like the romance is gone. We know, the job, the chores, it's easy to let it slip away, you start to take each other for granted. Don't worry, we've got a great idea. Here's what you're going to do: Tell your partner to get off work early this Wednesday and meet you at Wallingford Playfield at around 5:30 pm.…

Archie McOpen!

You may have noticed a lull in the Weird over the past few days. That's because Archie McPhee's officially closed their Ballard doors on Thursday, so they could officially open their Wallingford doors tomorrow, Monday June 1st at 9 am (1300 N 45th St, where the liquor store used to be)! Out on our bike today, we decided to see if we could get a sneak peak, perhaps by flashing our hyperlocal press credentials, or, in a pinch, sneaking in through…
