Inside Passage

As evidence by the previous post, there seems to be occasional confusion about the boundaries of Wallingford; specifically whether Tangletown, the area north of 50th to Greenlake, is part of Wallingford or part of Greenlake. There should be no confusion. Tangletown, you are we.To celebrate the inclusion of Tangletown in Wallingford, we take a Tangletown break and point you towards a reception hosted by Nancy Merrill (known to many for her spearheading the planting of literally hundreds of trees throughout Wallingford) at…

Dear Wallyhood

Dear Wallyhood,Can you please solve my marital dispute? My husband and I disagree about which neighborhood we live in.We live in that "Tangletown" area north of 50th and south of Zoka. Between Meridian and Latona. Where all the streets are crooked and some call it Narnia because it's easy to get hopelessly lost. I thought we were officially listed as living in Greenlake with the City but hopefully I'm wrong. My husband self-identifies as living in Wallingford. Who is right? Thanks,Confused in…

High 5 Pie

Remember how on Twin Peaks, Agent Cooper used to order a "cup of joe and a slice of cherry pie, and it was somehow epic and transcendent? We were reminded of that reading a recent e-mail from Dani of Fuel Coffee, extolling their new High 5 Pies: High 5 Pies are all-natural 7" deep dish pies and handheld "Flipsides" made from my Grandma's favorite all-butter crust recipe. Pies are a classic treat, vintage and nostalgic of simple times while being modern…

Say it ain’t so, Perche No!

Wallingford Twitter was atwitter this past Saturday morning with news that there were fire trucks convergin on Perche No on N 49th by Stone Way. John pointed us towards Nancy Leson's article in the Seattle Times with the grim story.Turns out it was a kitchen fire, probably electrical, and they'll be closed for up to a few months while they recover:"It's unbelievable," says Lily, who recalled for me the hours leading up to the fire. She and her husband left the…

They'll be getting a cake to celebrate. (And little did we know that this whole time, Julia's has been donating their leftover pastries and goodies. If we…

Light the Way

So last week, our friend Peaboy e-mailed us with a "hot tip": I have a story idea for you… go along N Pacific Way and count how many street lights are out… it varies night to night, but I can count 5 or 6 some nights between 1st Ave and Fisheries Supply. We were unimpressed. In fact, we mocked him: Hmm....streetlights are out sometimes. I smell Pulitzer. Well, you can imagine our chagrin when he mailed us a link to the…

Three legged stool

We've been a bit confused at the various civic, legislative, and paramilitary organizations around Wallingford (OK, not so much the last one, although it suggests a solution to the car prowl problem we find enticing). Enjoying a cup of coffee at Mosaic with Neighborhood Council president Mary "Darth" Heim, we got the skinny, which we share here with you.Wallingford Chamber of Commerce: Presided over by Kara Ceriello of Not A Number, the chamber represents the business interests.Wallingford Community Council: One of…
