The Drag Lynx Car Club

Drag Lynx

A fun story ten years in the making came across Wallyhood’s inbox this morning.

In 2010, Wallyhood posted a story about a Craigslist ad asking for information about a car club at Lincoln High School (read the original story here).

A decade later, that ad paid off:

Hello! My name is Ray Guardiano, Class of 1974, Lincoln High. Ten years ago, you allowed me to post a request to your readers that I looking for any information on a Lincoln High car club from the late 50’s to the late 60’s known as the “Drag Lynx.” I have received no …

Petit Troll Parade

In honor of Mardi Gras happening next Tuesday, the Fremont Arts Council is hosting a Mardi Gras-themed parade on Sunday 2/23 at the Fremont Sunday Market. From their website:

We’re bringing our Petit Trolls to life! This tiny parade is done in the spirit of Mardi Gras! At Noon on Sunday, February 23rd (just before Fat Tuesday), we will do a flash-mob-style procession, pulling our mini-glittering themed floats through the Fremont Sunday Market. Come find out how you can play with us!

If you’re interested in participating, the Fremont Arts Council is also hosting a workshop from 1 to 4:30 …

Fecal Fest Lottery Closes Soon

Jordan February 18, 2020 Comments are off

Do you want to grow elephantine endives? Gargantuan green beans? Colossal cauliflower?

The secret, as any good gardener knows, is in the fertilizer, and if you want rhinoceros-sized rhubarb, maybe you should add a little rhinoceros-sourced manure.

Every year, the Woodland Park Zoo collects the manure from their “non-primate herbivores”, compost it and sell it to local gardeners who are interested in adding a little zoological zip to their harvest. However, there are more people interested in the Fecal Fest than there is feces to go around, apparently, so if you want some of the dark matter, you have until …

Forums are back

Jordan February 16, 2020 3 Comments

I’ve had a number of people alert me that the Wallyhood Forums, and open area where you can post messages for your neighbors, hasn’t been functioning for some time.

A month or two ago, a spambot got a hold of the forum and began posting literally thousands of messages an hour advertising colleges, presumably for SEO reasons. I added a captcha (a simple math problem) to prevent automated posting, but the task of clearing out the spam that had been posted in the meantime proved daunting.

Well, I finally decided to just purge all the old content and start fresh, …

Manhattan St, Wallingford, Seattle

Jordan February 16, 2020 6 Comments

Pejo McHutt* posted a link to this map, circa 1901, to the Facebook Seattle Vintage group recently, and it left me wide-eyed.

The original map appears on David Rumsey’s Map Collection which notes a publication date of 1901. This has me a little puzzled, because from the best that I can tell, street names were changed from their original names (above) to those we know today as part of Seattle’s Ordinance 4044, passed in 1895 following the Great Seattle Fire of 1889.

Still, so much to wonder about! First off, note that this is before the Fremont Canal and the …
