Commune Yoga Comes To Wallingford

Jordan August 24, 2019 1 Comment

There’s a new(ish) yoga studio in Wallingford, Commune Yoga (313 NE 45th St., conveniently located between Kate’s Pub and the American Mary weed shop). I say “new(ish)” because they opened back in May, and even then, it was strictly new, as much as “new to Seattle”: the original Commune Yoga was opened in Los Angeles, and the owners, Patrick Beach and his wife Carling, have migrated it up to Seattle.

Before I let Patrick explain his journey from Wallingford to the wide world to Los Angeles back to Wallingford, let me note …

Graffiti Guy Caught Spray Handed (and other weirdness)

Jordan August 22, 2019 17 Comments

A few weeks back, Loretta confronted this guy tagging the northwest entrance to Meridian park with spray paint. She called 911, while fending off his implorings about the significance of his art. She says he left on a bike, with black backpack full of paint and an orange bucket.

From Wallingford / Fremont Facebook Community Page

Wallingford has some beautiful murals, as well as some ugly walls that could use a beautiful mural. If turban-man wants to express himself, I’d encourage him to contact an affable property owner and offer his services. Heck, I’ve got some spaces that need some …

Waste Management Announces Community Project Grants

Jack August 20, 2019 1 Comment

You’ve certainly seen their trucks moving about our neighborhood (and if not, I’ve provided a photo). Waste Management is the city contractor responsible for collecting recycling, trash and compost/yard waste here in Wallingford and about half of the remaining areas of Seattle. (The half of the populace not served by Waste Management gets their garbage collected by CleanScapes.)

Waste Management, in partnership with Seattle Public Utilities, has just announced that grants are available for projects conducted within the communities that they serve. (So, Wallingford qualifies.) Since Waste Management is, obviously, a waste management company, proposed projects must support waste reduction, …

Scam Alert: Graphic Designer Needs Bus Ticket

Jack August 17, 2019 6 Comments

A reader recently wrote to us alerting us to a possible scam artist who’s making the rounds of Capitol Hill, the U District and now, apparently, our neighborhood. Details are posted here on Reddit, but the basic story is that this guy came to Seattle for a job interview, had his stuff stolen, and now he needs your help with bus fare back home to San Francisco. I can’t independently confirm whether this is true or not, but our reader writes:

Just wanted to let you know that this guy intercepted me this morning on 45th street in front of …

Olé Café brings a taste of Spain to the neighborhood

Aakanksha Agarwal August 12, 2019 Comments are off

Hola neighbors! There is a brand new cafe in Wallingford/Tangletown: Olé Café. What singles Olé Café out from the many coffee shops mushrooming all over the neighborhood is that it is the first Spanish-speaking only venue in Seattle; they are a café and tapas bar, serving a limited menu of authentic Spanish drinks and dishes; they also lead Spanish classes for adults inside the space through the owner, Amanda Reichert’s other company, Vámonos Spanish Center.

A native Seattleite, Amanda was drawn to the lyrical Spanish language when she was all of 12 years old and graduated …

Ice cream catastrophe!

Katy August 9, 2019 4 Comments

Did anyone else wake up during that epic rain storm last Friday? The Molly Moon’s location in Wallingford had a rude awakening after the roof of their store collapsed from all the rain. The shop is closed for repairs until Monday, August 12th. They will reopen with buy one, get one free scoops all day on the 12th. In the meantime, if you want to get a frozen treat in the neighborhood, better head to Fainting Goat Gelato instead.
