East Wallingford may lose bus service

Mike Ruby March 3, 2023 26 Comments

Metro is exploring how to revise its bus routes to better serve the new Lynnwood Light Rail station. In the process it also took a look at a bus serving both the Northgate and University District stations and is proposing to eliminate the service through Wallingford. The map shows a dotted line, which is the #20 bus line that is to be eliminated. You can provide Metro with comments on their website through March 10.  The page only talks about Lynnwood but this is where you can comment on the #20.

For many years the #26 Express ran down …

Is Wallingford a “15 minute city”?

Mike Ruby February 26, 2023 35 Comments

Some years ago a candidate for the Mayor of Paris, France proposed she would make sure Paris was a “15 minute city” with access to the essential commercial and public facilities within a 15 minute walk of each resident. That idea has caught on with urban density advocates and is part of the motivation for proposed upzones in Seattle. Recently a UW graduate student, Nat Henry, asked himself if he could map Seattle to see where it is already a “15 minute city” and where it lacks facilities. His maps are interactive, that is you can select what you consider…

Save the Date: Figurehead Brewing to Open on Stone Way this Fall

DOUG. February 23, 2023 Comments are off

Sometime this fall, hopefully in October, Figurehead Brewing will be opening a new location (their second) at 3513 Stone Way, a few doors up from the Pacific Inn. I recently met with Bob Monroe, head brewer and owner of Figurehead at the new location, which is in the very early stages of a significant build-out.

The space was formerly used as a woodworking shop and more recently for storage, but has fallen into a state of disrepair that will require extensive work to get it up-and-running as a taproom. Figurehead is currently waiting on permits from the city to start …

Minibar Seattle – Street Food How You Like It

Megan Dulgar Okabayashi February 21, 2023 2 Comments

Honestly Good Food and Drink

Just on the Southwest edge of Wallingford, along the Burke Gilman Trail sits an old train station which, over the last 80 years has hosted several iconic Seattle businesses. In addition to a train station, this spot has been a bicycle shop, a café and now, a (mini) bar with killer Korean street food.

I first discovered Minibar when my husband’s hockey team rented it out for a holiday party. Wandering in, I was delighted to see that the former Solsticio Café had been revived…and this time, with adult beverages!

I popped in again the …

Seattle Meowtropolitan temporarily closed

Julie Martin February 17, 2023 Comments are off

Wallingford’s unique and wonderful Seattle Meowtropolitan Cat Cafe has closed temporarily due to a health issue in the cat population. All cats have been returned to the partner shelter.

I swung by today and in addition to the sign, I was able to speak with the owner, Andrew and manager, John. They didn’t have many more details to share. Just that all the cats are doing fine and they look forward to reopening. They promised when they have more information, they would send it our way.

The kitties would love your support, though! Consider picking up a gift card, some …
