The EWHA clean-up, previously advertised on these pages, was held today and proved an unqualified success. Fifteen Wallingford residents reported for duty, including a number of new faces lured in through the blog. Based on our burgeoning numbers, Hoyt and Scott made the bold and daring decision to expand our officially adopted area to include areas of Thackeray and 5th Ave, a geography previously considered unachievable.
Wallyhood’s own assigned territory was Latona between 45th and 42nd, so if you see garbage along that route, that’s our personal badge of shame.
Our Gettysburg, though, was fought at the bus stop area on 5th Ave below 45th. The carnage included 7 bags of garbage, two microwaves, a VCR and a dead rat. Fortunately, we were aided in that battle by X-Man, who, after emerging from the house he’s lived since 1969 to investigate why perfect strangers were cleaning his street, took up arms with us and tore into the rat’s nest on the far side of the highway entrance ramp.
Thanks to all who turned out! And remember, if you’re interested in adopting your own street, consult the SPU Adopt-A-Street web site.
