EWHA Represent!

  • Post author:

Some day a real rain will come and wash all the scum off these streets.

But until then, it’s up to the semi-fictitious East Wallingford Hot Tub Association (EWHA). As we did last week, Wallyhood will be out with fellow EWHAers his Saturday from 10 am until noon, cleaning the streets of East Wallingford of litter and debris.

It may seem like a little thing, but we’re big believers in the Broken Windows Theory, the idea that small things, like a little bit of litter or a few broken windows, can create an impression of chaos and apathy that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, with petty crime and filth to follow. Pick up a few cigarette butts and nip the End of Days in the bud.

Many hands make for light work, and there’s no better way to get to know your neighbors than strolling the streets with them, gossipping about other neighbor’s trash, so come join us. We’ll have gloves and bags and reflective gear and even some graffiti removal equipment. No prior garbage picking up experience required.

This post will be updated with address and other relevant details.

Update: We’ll be convening at 302 NE 44th St (NE corner of 44th and Latona). Call 206 276 4333 if you get confused.*

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
