Get Your Community On

Phinneywood reports that there’s a great opportunity this Saturday to find ways to get involved in your local community:

A number of local organizations will give people plenty of opportunity to get involved in the neighborhood at the Civic Engagement Fair this Saturday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the Greenwood Senior Center at 525 N. 85th St.

Sponsored by the Greenwood SAGE (Seniors, Active, Giving and Engaged) Project, the nonprofit groups will talk about the diverse needs of our community and what you can do to help. Organizations include the Boys & Girls Club, Compassion & Choices, Gilda’s Club, Green Bean Coffeehouse, New Beginnings, New Horizons, Phinney Neighborhood Association, Refugee Women’s Alliance, Southern Sudanese Community, and others.

Wallyhood wonder which “New Horizons” that is. Probably not the “adult social club” in Edmonds, but that would make for some interesting civic involvement.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
