Eat This Book

OMG, we have not been this happy to hear about an event since 2001, when a friend suggested we check out something called “Burning Man“. Check this out: The Seattle Edible Books Festival.

According to the web site, “An Edible Book can look like a book, pun on a title, refer to a character, or just have something to do with books – whatever the inspiration, it must be edible. Think—> The Unbearable Lightness of Bean and Alice in Wonderbread and Catcher in the Rye and The Lovely Bones and Dictionary.”

Want in? Here’s the deal (again, from their site):

  1. YOU come up with an Edible Book entry (or entries) and tell all your friends about it and then they’ll want to make one too.
  2. Register your name & contact info & Edible Book title with us – starting now until April 2nd.
  3. Noon to 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 4, 2009, bring your entry to the Good Shepherd Center , 4649 Sunnyside Ave North.
  4. We will check you off the list and compliment you on your wit & creativity and arrange and photograph your entry (entries).
  5. 1:00 to 2:00, many many people (other entrants and admirers) will admire them
  6. 2:00 to 2:30, Celebrity Judges will award prizes.
  7. 2:30 to 3:30, we will ingest literary culture together (ie eat them).

Amazing! Free with entry, $10 donation gets you a fork and a seat at the table. Proceeds benefit the Seattle Center for Book Arts, see the Seattle Edible Book Festival web site for more details.

We’re looking through the photos from past years to get some ideas for our entry. Hmm…MiddleChex?

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
