The End (of liquor) is Nigh!

It’s official. We previously reported that the liquor store at the corner of 45th and Stone Way would be moving to make way for Archie McPhee’s, but we didn’t have a date for the move. Now we do. According to the WSLCB press release, the closing date will be March 21st.

State Liquor Store No. 45, located at 1300 N. 45th St. in Wallingford, will close at the end of business on March 21. The Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) is seeking an alternative location in the area after losing its lease at the Wallingford location.

Customers can visit nearby stores in the meantime:

  • State Liquor Store No. 96, located at 2746 NE 45th St. Ste. 3 in University Village, is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • State Liquor Store No. 187, located at 2840 NW Market St. in Ballard, is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • State Liquor Store No. 47, located at 9218 Greenwood Ave. N. in Greenwood, is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
  • State Liquor Store No. 136, located at 7740 15th Ave. NW in Crown Hill, is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

Please, people, no hoarding.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

We could set up a community still and call the brew “Wally Hooch”.

I think we’ll survive without it. Not so sure about the street people, though. Where will they go?

What’s up with the fact that the Archie McPhee move was announced back in September 2008, http://www.seattlepi.com/business/381177_archie01.html, but the WSLCB press release didn’t come out until March 10, 2009, when they announce that the store will close within two weeks? With all the vacant space in the area, you would think that they could easily have had a new lease in place and move the booze straight to the new location.
