Tweedy and Popp Bucket Brigade

  • Post author:

It’s a comin’! We first reported back in January (Bucket Brigade! and Tweedy and Popp: Inside Scoop) that the Wallingford Chamber was hatching a plan to help Tweedy and Popp move their hardware store down 45th St hand-to-hand, bucket brigade style. Well, the time is upon us.

This Saturday, March 28th at 11 am, Wallingford chamber members, community council members and residents will form a human chain, passing merchandise out of the old digs and into the new. At least 12 Wallingford businesses are taking part.

Want in? Of course you do! And you should! Molly Moon tells us they need at least 100 people, so this is your moment to become a part of something greater than any one of us.

So show up this Saturday at 11 am at Tweedy and Popp’s old location (1916 N. 45th St to get in on the action). Be timely, though: they won’t be passing the entire inventory, so the whole shebang should last just a half hour so.

In closing, we will repeat the text of our original post, because we amuse ourselves, if nobody else:

A bucket brigade down 45th St! Get outta town! Hitch a cart to Ol’ Paint and dig out my best overalls, we’re gonna have ourselves a old fashioned bucket brigade! Men-folk and women-folk working side-by-side for the common good, sticky faced children chasing each other between legs (’don’t choke on that there lollipop, boy!’), and some sorta ruckus emanating from Changes and Murphy’s. Hoooey! Gonna be like old times and I ain’t gonna miss it fer nothin’!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Dang, I really wanted to do this, but alas, the wife and I will be in the Cinque Terre….

We’ll be there! That sounds so old fashion neighborly – what a great idea!! Here’s praying for good weather!

I love it. After all, T&P has made home improvement easier for this Wallingforian.

… And look for me at the barn-raising over at QFC’s hole-in-the-ground on Stone Way at 2pm.

Plus, if you show up you get a free Trophy cupcake! At least that’s what they told us when we went in yesterday. 🙂
