Get your chicken on

  • Post author:

chickenSeems like everyone wants to double-down on their urban farms. Lettuce and pole beans aren’t enough anymore: the modern urbanite need bees, chickens and goats! We have a standing offer out to help any neighbor set up a bee hive in their back yard, and this Saturday, April 11 at 10:00 am, Seattle Tilth at the Good Shepherd Center is offering a class on raising chickens in your back yard:

Starting with baby chicks

You will learn the most important considerations in caring for baby chicks, including chicken physiology, behavior, health, nutrition, housing and city regulations. This class also covers the wide variety of chicken breeds. Questions are encouraged. You will leave this class with everything you need to know to start raising chicks.

Cost: $30 for Tilth members, $40 for non-members. Advanced registration is required.

Register on the class page or see their City Chicken FAQ.

Jordan

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
