Fremont Toastmaster

We’re sorry, but we can’t help it. Whenever we hear “Toastmaster”, we picture Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan the Barbarian, his sword in the air, standing on a big pile of toast. “I am TOASTMASTER!”

While we do know that Toastmasters International is dedicated to “fostering self-confidence and personal growth through a educational and supportive environment”, we’re pretty sure the end product doesn’t involve a oaths of courage bellowed in a loin cloth. Unfortunately.

Still, if you’re curious whether we’re wrong, check out the open house the Fremont Toastmasters are hosting this Wednesday, 4/29 from 7:30 – 8:30 AM in the Fremont Baptist Church (717 N 36th Street):

  • What we offer: a supportive environment where you can improve your speaking skills
  • What we don’t offer: toasted bread and jam or the sound of clinking glasses

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
