Wallpaper No More

  • Post author:

The old media is taking a beating. First, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer ceased its print operation, then the Christian Science Monitor followed suit, and now, in a final blow, the Wallpaper has announced it will merge with the Wallingford eNews:

A few members [of the Wallingford Community Council] still request the Wallpaper by mail, but most find it in their email inbox, typically along with the Wallingford Enews. Why two different, often overlapping publications for Wallingford news? There doesn’t seem to be justification for the extra time and expense. So, the WCC is planning to submit regular articles to the Enews rather than creating this separate publication. Please let us know if you have any concerns about this plan.

The Wallpaper, for those who didn’t know, was the media organ of the Wallingford Community Council (see our Three Legged Stool post for info on what they do). We admit with some embarrassment that we didn’t actually know it existed until it was brought to our attention that it would be ceasing to exist. Ah, the irony.

If you’d like to sign-up for the Wallingford eNews, e-mail [email protected]. It is a 7 – 8 page document that is e-mailed monthly. Wallyhood often uses it as a source for our stories.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
