5K Briefcase Run to benefit Solid Ground

  • Post author:

The folks who put on the Love ‘Em or Leave ‘Em Valentine’s Fun Run around Greenlake in February have another run coming up this Friday, the Fremont 5K and Briefcase Relay. Another dress-up event, this one asks participants to carry 5 cans of food in their briefcase, which get donated to Wallingford’s Solid Ground at the end of the race:

Race Day Schedule

5:00pm:  Race-Day Registration & Packet Pickup
5:45pm:  Team Briefcase Relay Inspection
6:00pm:  Team Briefcase Relay Starts
6:00pm:  Beer Garden Opens
7:00pm:  5K Run/Walk Starts
8:00pm:  Awards Ceremony & Celebration

Things kick-off just north of the Fremont Bridge near the intersection of N 34th Street & Fremont Avenue.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Just to clarify: While the Fremont Fun Run does provide some benefit to Solid Ground to support our programs, the cans of food folks are aked to bring in their Briefcase Relay briefcases will go directly to the FamilyWorks food bank, which, as loyal Wallyhood readers know, serves hungry folks in our neighborhood.
