Art Walk

This Wednesday is the first Wednesday of the month, meaning it’s Wallingford Art Walk starting around 6 pm. As per the yooj, there will be live music in front of Wallingford Center from 6:30 – 7:30 (this week, courtesy of the Easy Street Band), a shuttle leaves at 6:45 pm to take you to some of the further away locations (like Oasis), and, of course, there’s lots of art at lots of businesses. We know, for example, that the Seattle Plein Air Artists Group (a group of folks who get off on creating art in the “open air”) will be showing their stuff inside the Blue Star Cafe (4512 Stone Way), where you get 10% off your bill if you show your Art Walk program.

Other local restaurants offering art walk specials include Selena’s Guadalajara (1715 N 45th St), which is offering a $3.75 margarita special, Changes, which is offering some unspecified drink special and Rain (2208 N 45th St), which has an all-night happy hour.

Now, we know that when we say “restaurants offering art walk specials include” it implies that there’s a long list of such establishments, and we’re only scratching the surface for the sake of parsimony. That’s not actually the case. That’s the whole list that we know of. So go to one of those, because they care about art, unlike the other restaurants and bars, which are anti-art.

For kids, Alphabet Soup (1406 N. 45th St) is having an open house from 6 – 9 pm with a Beverly Cleary theme (The Mouse and Motorcycle, Ramona, etc.), with games, trivia and a raffle. Finally, the winner of the children’s coloring contest (info on the art walk web site) will be announced at the Art Walk booth at the Farmer’s Market earlier in the day.

It’s a nice way to spend a warm, summer evening. You should try it.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
