Market Report

This week’s 4pm cooking demonstration at this Wednesday’s Wallingford Farmer’s Market (3 – 7 pm at Wallingford Center) will be by chef Amy McCray of Eva’s Restaurant and Wine Bar (2227 N 56th). Here’s the “What’s Fresh” report from the organizers (culled for Wallingford):

Raspberries are in!  Find them now at Alm Hill Gardens…. Strawberry season remains in full swing, as we progress from one variety to another.  Look for them at Jessie’s Berries, Hayton, Tiny’s and Collins at all markets, and Alm Hill and Stoney Plains at Ballard and Wallingford. Cherries continue to evolve through their many varieties this season, too.  Look for Chelan, Berner, Burlatt, Tieton, Rainier and Bing varieties now.  Find cherries at ACMA, Ayala, Tiny’s, Collins, Lyall and Magana ….  Also now available widely through our markets: peas, broccoli, asparagus (but not for long), chard, kale, lettuce, carrots, radishes, rhubarb, onions, summer squash, green beans, kohlrabi, beets, turnips and more.

Or, you can luck out like Wallyhood and have your neighbors drop off bowls of cherries at your door.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
