Mystery Painting

  • Post author:

DSC01982Chris W. from Lower Wallingford sent us this photo of an oil painting nailed to a telephone pole. It’s actually not the first time we’ve covered this particular piece of random Wallingford outdoor art. Back in January when this blog was born, a shot of this painting, along with a couple of its brethren, was our third post: Rogue Paintings.

At the time, we asked if anyone knew who the artist was and how the paintings came to be nailed to poles, but heard no reply. Of course, then our readership was but a tiny sliver of what it’s become, so we thought it would be worth asking again.

Anyone want to take responsibility? We promise we won’t hurt you, we just want to take you in for questioning.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I love these paintings & can’t identify the artist, but I’m dismayed to see the glasses-wearing defacement on the mountain. I guess we should be glad they haven’t been cut, removed, or otherwise defaced?

  2. Christopher

It is truly a short-sighted person who believes that a mountain needs glasses to see better.

The Sign People appreciate your words of encouragement!

I think you’ll be seeing more soon.

As the photographer in question, I thought I was looking at “creative license” here. I really should take more classes (or wear my glasses!) 😉

  4. Christopher

It is not the photographer who needs new glasses (nice picture, by the way)…it’s the graffiti artist.

Then again, maybe the painting is better this way?

Maybe the next one should simply be a blank canvas…

  5. Chris W.

Blank canvases in Wallingford? Could be an interesting experiment.

Nonetheless, colorful expression is certainly appreciated around here! Especially from those of who haven’t a lick of artistic sense whatsoever!
