One Night Only: Julie Cascioppo

  • Post author:

If you never caught local starlet and “international cabaret chanteuse” Julie Cascioppo’s 1990’s weekly gig at the Pink Door (“a series of ‘mini one-woman operas,’ performed in the guises of some 20 different deadpan comic characters”) or any of her one woman shows, you’ve got an opportunity to right a wrong this Saturday, June 27th 7:30 pm at the Good Shepherd Center. She’ll be performing her show “I Love Being Abroad: Hello Bali!” (“a 75-minute musical trip [through] Paris, Istanbul, India and Bali…Her annual birthday show is highly anticipated by her rabid fans.”).

Seattle native Cascioppo spent 4 years living and singing in Paris (“I was on holiday [in the Caribbean] and a French father and son heard me sitting in with the hotel band and said I should come to Paris. So I did.”), but has been doing her comedy / jazz / opera shtick here since 1985. Well worth the $10.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
