Welcome Sponsors!

Observant readers may have noticed a new addition to our sidebar: sponsors!

That’s right, several businesses have stepped forward and offered to help support our community building efforts (and, when this becomes more than a break-even proposition for us, Baby Z’s college fund) by becoming our first official Wallyhood Sponsors:

Archie McPhee (corner of 45th St and Stone Way) “considered to be a Mecca for connoisseurs of the strange and one of Seattle’s top ten weird destinations, it is truly an attraction without a parallel.” We have personally purchased there, at various times: 3 remaindered Chinese test pilot flight suits, 1 bride and groom wedding cake top, 4 test tubes, 1 large green devil duck, 12 rubber echidnas, 12 pink flamingos and a handful of indescribable oddments. As a kick-off special, Archie McPhee is offering Wallyhood readers this printable coupon for a free Less Talk, More Monkey bumper sticker.

Fuerte Fitness (1225 N 45th St) is “Wallingford’s first neighborhood gym, offering … one-on-one personal training, group exercise classes, and massage.” We did a semi-adulatory blog post about Fuerte last week, so we won’t go on at length here, but we do believe that if you’re looking for more than just a place to “work out”, stop by Fuerte and chat with Adriana (and Ken and the other trainers). If her workouts give her the energy she has, we want some.

Thanks so much to both of these businesses.

If you think we’re performing a valuable service and would like to support what we’re doing, please visit our sponsorship page or drop us a line for more info.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
