We had no idea, but it sounds like Wide World Books and Maps (4411 Wallingford Ave N) was on the ropes, and considering closing its doors forever. Fortunately, it’s been pulled back from the brink by avid traveler and new owner, Julie Hunt. The Seattle Times has the full story.

Thank goodness for the new owner. I love that store and it’s nice to know it’s sticking around for a while longer. Reminds me I have some maps I need to pick up. Off to Wide World!
Wow! I’m glad they’re “safe”.. I make a purchase there ~3 times/year, but would miss them if they closed..
I want to say that Wide World was never “on the ropes” in a financial sense. It was only that I wanted to sell the store to enter a new phase in my life and yes I did consider closing the store but not because of poor business.
I love the store and have been somewhat amazed/delighted that such a full-service emporium continues on. My dollars are definitely going there.
