50th Street Market: Reborn?

  • Post author:

IMG_0071Back in March, we lamented the passing of what had been a neighborhood fixture (although a dilapidated, cheap booze selling fixture of late), the 50th Street Market. Dan S., the original 50th St. tipster, let us know last night that the Phoenix is rising:

Balloons and a sandwich board have appeared in front of the 50th Street Market, the closing of which we reported back in March.  The text and valentine hearts of the sign suggest that the store will re-open on August 1st.  The interior doesn’t look quite ready for an opening, but I suppose a lot can happen in two weeks.
Anyone got details?  Did the owner find a buyer, or is he reopening it himself?  Will there be cheap booze?

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
