Lullaby Moon Report

  • Post author:

We apologize for not making a bigger deal out of it. Lullaby Moon, the roving full moon performance that made its way to Gas Works Park this past Wednesday, was an absolute treasure and a treat. When we arrived at 8:30 pm, the show was already fully underway, and the entire south side of Kite Hill was packed tight.

The performance straddled land and sea, with moon drunk rabbits, alchemist cats, clock children and more dancing and frolicking on shore and aboard slowly chugging paddle boats, moon boats and a four-poster bed pulled slowly by a tug. There seemed to be a plot, but it all unfurled slowly and languidly so that we hardly noticed. The music, a sort of oompah-laden sousa-like chamber sound, filled the space beautifully, despite the space being the outdoors.

The golden orange sunset over Aurora, the blue-black water of Lake Union, the sparkling of the Emerald City, and then the whimsical white figures dancing and cavorting amidst it all was just stunning, and such a treat to have in our own backyard. At the end, children broke down the fourth wall and started dancing with the rabbits, and then were joined by the adults, until the whole thing devolved into collage quilt of colored costumes whirling and twhirling.

This slideshow should update automatically as more people upload their photos to Flickr:

Check their web site for info on the next one, on full moon in August.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
