Mystery Painting of your own

  • Post author:

Last week, we hunted down the creator of the Mystery Paintings nailed to telephone poles in Lower Wallingford. The creator has added an offer that we thought you wouldn’t want to miss, reproduced here in its ALL CAPS GLORY:

DSC01982RANDOM PUBLIC ART

NOW WITH PUBLIC PARTICIPATION!

EIGHT (8) PAINTINGS ARE AVAILABLE *RIGHT NOW* AT THE SOUTHERN WALLINGFORD PUBLIC DISC GOLF COURSE AT 3631 BAGLEY AVE

PLEASE COME TAKE ONE (1) AND NAIL IT TO ONE (1) TELEPHONE POLE SOMEWHERE IN WALLINGFORD

THE NAILS ARE ALL READY TO GO IN THE FRAMES…YOU’LL JUST NEED A HAMMER

PLEASE SELECT A POLE THAT ISN’T IN A DISRUPTIVE LOCATION (OR IN FRONT OF AN UPTIGHT PERSON’S HOUSE WHO MIGHT TAKE THE PAINTING DOWN RIGHT AWAY)

*** VERY IMPORTANT *** WHEN YOU NAIL THE PAINTING TO THE POLE, DON’T POUND THE NAIL IN TOO FAR SO THAT THE HEAD RIPS THE CANVAS…STOP WHEN IT’S EVEN WITH IT

BUT IT’S NOT A BIG DEAL IF THAT HAPPENS…THEY’RE JUST PAINTINGS

THE SERIES, IN CASE YOU WONDERED, WHICH YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T, IS ABOUT THE GENESIS OF LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE

YOU PROBABLY COULDN’T TELL THAT BY LOOKING AT THEM

IF YOU TAKE THE LAST PAINTING, PLEASE ADD A NOTE TO THIS PAGE SO PEOPLE DON’T BOTHER COMING OVER FOR NOTHING

BUT IT WOULDN’T BE NOTHING, REALLY, SINCE THERE’S ALWAYS DISC GOLF TO BE PLAYED

THANKS TO WALLYHOOD FOR HOSTING THIS SITE

VIA L’ART PUBLIC!

As of this weekend, the creator added:

LAST CHANCE!

PLEASE COME PICK UP A PAINTING OR TWO TODAY, MONDAY

IF YOU ALREADY GRABBED ONE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO TAKE ANOTHER

ANY PAINTINGS REMAINING AT THE STROKE OF MIDNIGHT WILL BE GIVEN A VIKING FUNERAL ON LAKE UNION

As much as we love viking funerals, we love art that keeps on living, so get on down there!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Counting down one placed somewhere on 36th street…

35th street along the 26 bus route is now a more artistic walk.

Picked up the next to last painting just now. Deciding where to hang it…

Pour tous ceux qui louent un appartement, nous avons pris le dernier!

As of 8:45, there’s one left. I didn’t have the heart (or something) to take it.

We finally got the nerve to post the next-to-last painting on N Pacific at the foot of Sunnyside – so I can watch from our house. Yesterday we sae three 20-something guys gingerly try to pull it off the telephone pole (as I was going down our front steps to yell at them) but they gave up and left it. This is not your quiet Wallingford block – let’s see how the brave little painting does out there.
