Michelle spotted one of the paintings created and donated by Lower Wallingford’s Mystery Artist, nailed to a telephone pole at 41st and Corliss. Reports are that all the paintings offered were taken, so no viking funeral was required. However, Barb wrote:

We finally got the nerve to post the next-to-last painting on N Pacific at the foot of Sunnyside – so I can watch from our house. Yesterday we sae three 20-something guys gingerly try to pull it off the telephone pole (as I was going down our front steps to yell at them) but they gave up and left it. This is not your quiet Wallingford block – let’s see how the brave little painting does out there.

Be safe, brave little painting!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I’m sorry to report that the painting was missing this morning. I took a closer look and some wood on the pole was splintered, but I’m guessing the thief used a crowbar or similar to get the nails cleanly out of the wood.

The little painting was on display not quite 2 1/2 days.

    Phooey.

Damn, I hope that it at least ended up on someone’s wall. I’m happy to report that the one I placed on the 26 bus route is still up so far.
