We understand from Dancehop.com that there will be a milonga (i.e., there will be tango dancing) tonight at Selena’s Guadalajara (1715 N 45th St). We’d be most grateful if a reader would attend, dance themselves into a sweaty pool, then write a report to share with our other readers.
1st Thursday of the month, 9:00pm to 12:00 midnight or 1:00am
New dance floor, full bar, dinner before 9:00, late-night Mexican food menu after 9:00
From Christopher:
Starting in February, there will be a new milonga at Selena’s Guadalajara, a Mexican restaurant in Wallingford that already hosts salsa dances twice a week. The new milonga will be on First Thursdays starting on February 5th, and we’ll see how it goes for the first few months then decide whether or not to do it more often.
The restaurant owners, Miguel & Laura, are great people, and are excited to host the milonga. They dance themselves (not tango, yet), and are supportive of the Seattle dance community. They have a great new dance floor, and a festive atmosphere.
The restaurant normally closes at 9:00, but will be open until midnight or later for tango on milonga nights. The full regular food menu will be available until 9:00, so please feel free to come in a bit early and eat dinner. After 9:00, we’ll have a special light food menu until at least 11:00pm. They welcome input on what kind of food people want, and I’ll be working with them on a new wine list. They also have a full bar and fabulous margaritas (ask for the “gold”…it’s great).
Entrance to the milonga is $5, and please support the restaurant by buying food and drinks. The DJ for the first few months will be Jeanne Castle.
