Icebergs and Windmills

Cathy TuttleCathy Tuttle will be holding an artist reception at Mosaic (4401 2nd Ave NE) tonight from 7 – 9 pm and her work will be hanging there for the next month. Of it, she says:

Why these paintings? It was really hot in Seattle in July so I painted windmills and icebergs to cool off Mosaic. I lived in Sweden for a year in 2006-2007 and traveled around northern Europe studying sustainable city planning. Most of the windmills you see are ones I saw in Sweden, except for the painting over the fireplace in the corner that is from the river Thames in Wallingford, UK, just outside of Oxford. I am a strong advocate for all varieties of carbon neutral energy systems but I haven’t worked out yet how to paint beautiful solar collectors or geothermal systems. And I do think windmills are beautiful.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
