Welcome to Llingford

  • Post author:

As we reported last week, the QFC remodel is underway and the iconic W A L L I N G F O R D sign came down last week (a day earlier than forecast) for safekeeping.

Jack Bonney, who took the photo on the left, suggested “I suppose ‘Llingford’, the neighborhood’s name circa 11am today, could have kind of a nordic flair to it, or perhaps be read as “ying-ford,” if I remember how double ‘L’ works in Spanish.”

Thanks to Amy Rainey for the photo on the right. And don’t worry, Kristin Maas of QFC writes “We’ll take good care of the sign…I promise!”

Please do, Kristin. Llingford is counting on you.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I don’t know, Llingford seems more Welsh than Nordic to me. =)

Definitely Welsh. The longest town name in the world is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, Wales.
