At the Market: Bike Repair

  • Post author:

Sure, sure, you know all about the Wallingford Market (Wednesdays 3 – 7 pm at the Wallingford Center) and how you can get fresh, local produce and small batch prepared foods. But did you know you can get your bike fixed?

Last week, we rapped with Ross Donaldson, owner and sole proprietor of Delicious Wheels, a mobile bike shop. That’s right mobile!

Ross carries the basics with him in a trailer behind his bike, and he makes house calls to tune up and repair bikes. He doesn’t carry all the variety of brake pads out there or chains and what-have-you, so sometimes it may mean two trips, but hey, it’s a housecall, so it’s not much of a hassle for you. The price works out around the same: you’re in for somewhere between $60 and $100 for a basic tune-up, same as Recycled Cycles or Gregg’s Green Lake.

And best of all, he makes market calls. Ross sets up weekly at the Wallingford Farmer’s Market and does the work while you shop. So bike up, drop off, browse around and peddle off.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Thanks for the tip, Wallyhood. Took my bike to Ross/Delicious Wheels at Wallingford Farmer’s Market yesterday –got some help with my bike and enjoyed the experience. Reasonable rates, too. Recommended!

The U-District farmer’s market sometimes (always?) has a knife sharpener there. That’s a great service you don’t see around much these days.

Ross is a heck of a mechanic too!
