Veer towards Wallingford

  • Post author:

Friday Night at the Meaningful Movies, a weekly screening of socially relevant movies followed by discussion led by people relevant to the film, is back after its summer hiatus. The fall season kicks off this Friday night at 7 pm with Veer, the award-winning documentary about alt-bike culture:

Veer explores America’s fast-growing bicycling culture by profiling five people whose lives are inextricably tied to bicycling and the bike-centric social groups they belong to. Portland filmmakers, Greg Fredette & Jason Turner, follow these characters over the course of a year, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their personal struggles and triumphs. Veers examine what it means to be part of a community, and how social movements are formed.

Check out the movie, then stick around and chat about with folks from Spokespeople, Cascade Bicycle Club, Bike Works and our paisan from Ballard, Totcycle.

Movies are shown at films are shown at the Keystone Congregational United Church of Christ, 5019 Keystone Place N and are free, although donations are accepted. Full deets on the Meaningful Movies web site.

Jordan

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
