Sign the Library Petition Today 2 – 4 pm

  • Post author:

We just got a note from Jennifer of the Friends of Seattle Public Library letting us know they’ll have someone in front of the Wallingford branch today collecting signatures to maintain the hours and funding for the public libraries, including the Wallingford branch. She writes:

The Friends of The Seattle Public Library are going to have volunteer collecting petition signatures Monday, October 19th from 2 to 4 pm. The petition is to the Mayor and Seattle City Council opposing any closure or other reduction in access to library hours – all year. The proposed operations budget (separate from the capital budget) for The Seattle Public Library would mean the Wallingford branch library would be closed Friday and Sunday plus operate on reduced hours at 35 hours a week.

They’re also asking community members to send letters or e-mails to the city council. Contact [email protected] for details.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Wallingford is the nicest community. Thanks to everyone that showed library support today. Passersby stopped to listen and many of you signed in opposition to a partial closure or reduction of hours in you branch library. You’re a very kind neighborhood I hope we can rally enough support to keep your library doors open as usual.

Thanks Wallyhood for helping the Friends get the word out. The petition will be presented to Seattle City Council at the public hearing on Monday, October 26th at town hall. Like Sarel said, you’re a great neighborhood.
