Swansons Shoe Stickin’ Around

Hi Mr. Wallyhood –
I was wondering if you knew what is going on at Swanson’s Shoe Repair on 45th between Corliss and Sunnyside. I was walking home from work on Monday evening and noticed that the windows are covered with brown paper on the inside. They are normally closed on Monday, so it wasn’t unusual that they were closed. Any ideas or news? I sure hope they haven’t closed for good – they’ve been a neighborhood mainstay for many decades

Well, we can’t say for sure, but we gave them a ring to find out, and their voicemail says they’ll be closed “most of Thanksgiving week” but will reopen Saturday morning, 8 am.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

    Gosh, I sure hope they’re staying with us! I rely on them for shoe and bag repair.
