Wallingford in Autumn Photo Contest Results

  • Post author:

Back in early October, we announced a week-long photo contest, themed “Wallingford in Autumn”, in which we promised to award a bag of Pangaea Organica‘s Wallingford-roasted coffee to two winners: best overall photo and best photo taken with a mobile phone.

The weeks dragged on. At one point, we pretended that we were intentionally extending the contest, but a reader called us out on our laziness.

Well, the long wait is over folks, and we hereby announce the winners:

Also, because we extended the contest as long as we did, we’re awarding one bonus prize to Erica, as both the first entrant, the only black-and-white entrant and, while we’re at it, a fine photographer:

Beautiful work all. We’ll get with you off-line about some roasted beans. (Erica, send us an e-mail with your contact info!)

There were a number of other beautiful shots submitted, as well, and it seems a shame to overlook them. Check out a few:

If anyone has ideas for our next contest, we’re all ears. Maybe you can even volunteer to be the judge!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Nice pics! How about creating our own Wallingford calendar with pictures provided by the Wallyhood community and give the money from the sale to a local charity?

I too like the pictures, beautiful- perhaps next time do a contest where professional photographers are not allowed… not fair to those of us with a less distinguished eye 🙂

It turns out Puja did shoot the “On the way to the Bus Stop” with an iPhone! Can you believe it?!

I’ve got to get me the Photoshop iPhone app.

I thought the pics were only allowed to be taken with phones. Puja’s is amazing, don’t get me wrong… but there is no way that’s with a phone camera. And if it is, it was photoshopped.

@Kaetlin: Nope, there was supposed to be one “best overall” and one “best on a phone” picture. It turns out, though, that Puja’s WAS taken on an iPhone and was Photoshopped on an iPhone as well. I just installed the free iPhone Photoshop app and it’s awesome, you can totally get those effects on it.

I won the “best on a phone” shot, but clearly Puja should have been given all the Pangea coffee. Nevertheless, I received my pound of beans yesterday, and I’m really looking forward to drinking it. Thanks so much!

Beautiful photos! For the next contest, how about one that’s seniors-themed, in honor of the senior center? There could be a category for photos of senior citizens (or maybe one for serious photos and one for humorous ones) and another for photos of older places or things in Wallingford, something like that?
