News Flash! Santa spotted on roof of QFC, taking a break from his world travels to renew iconic sign. Here’s a look at the old man hard at work:


Kelley, who shot the photos above, says:

Go tell it on the mountain, that the Wallingford sign is returning to the roof of QFC, letter by letter! What a great gift this Christmas Eve morning: we went to QFC for butter and diced green chiles, but in addition got a front row seat to Santa’s installation of the letters “N” and “I”! Turns out Santa is a firm believer in safety first, with a hardhat peeking out from under his Santa headgear and a harness tethering him to the building. And this Santa wasn’t just for decoration…we have pictoral proof that he actually guided the letters into place and was instrumental in affixing them to their support structures. It was a hoot to stand there with other shoppers and gawkers, enjoying the return of our beloved neighborhood monniker icon.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
