Molly Moon was a girl scout

Ya can’t make Scout Mint Ice Cream without genuine Girl Scout’s Thin Mints, so Molly Moon‘s is offering to buy ’em from local scouts. To keep both her stores stocked through 2010, she says she’ll need 4,500 boxes, which is enough to give us a stomach ache just thinking about it.

Last year, her ice cream empire bought $18,000 worth of cookies and helped to send more than 30 girls to Girl Scout camp with “camperships” (scholarships earned by campers that assist in sending them to camp).

Moon is a former Girl Scout herself, according to her press release, attended camp for 11 years and “values her time at camp as some of her most empowering life experiences.”

Well, there ya go. If you’ve got cookies, stop in and get some empowerment with hot fudge on top.

(And no, that’s not her in the picture. That’s just a shot from Flickr.)

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
