New Preschool Open House

  • Post author:

This coming Saturday, the 23rd at 10 am and Tuesday, the 26th at 6 pm, the brand new Huckleberry Forest Seattle Preschool of the Arts and Science will be holding an open house. The school is located at 2102 N 40th St. (40th and Meridian) on the ground floor of the Gift of Grace Lutheran Church. While it is housed in a church, it is not a faith-based school.

One-on-One Appointments are also available by contacting [email protected].

They are offering a tuition discount to the first 20 families enrolled.

This post is a pre-cursor to a full fledged daycare/preschool article I have in the works. I am interested in hearing anyone’s thoughts / opinions / experiences about Wallingford daycares and preschools.

Oh man — what a great-looking new preschool! Unfortunately, by the time my daughter’s old enough to go, there will either be a 3-year waiting list and residency requirements, or it will be closed. Here’s hoping there’s a spot in another year!

It sounds great, though it appears to be only a part-day program.

For your article in the works, it seems like the majority of preschools – and certainly those without lengthy waitlists- offer only part-day options. Why don’t more part-day programs have full-day options? What are families where both parents work outside the home supposed to do??

      Hi Kiri,
That is a very good point that I will be talking about in my article. The main issue is that by Washington State Law kids can only be at a preschool for 4 hours a day. I will talk about some resources for those families who need full day care.

P.S. If you happen to be one of those families and have found a solution I would love to hear from you.

Matt, I was unaware of that law. Both of my kids attended preschool from 8am to 5pm until they were ready for kindergarten. Or is there a licensing difference between a “daycare” and a “preschool”? If so, that might be tripping parents up…

      Chuck,
I am going to do some more research into the specifics of this so I can provide a clearer picture. Did your kids attend in Wallingford by chance? Thanks for the info.

So the update on child care licensing is that a preschool and daycare license are different….a preschool license only allows the kids to be on premise for four hours a day. A daycare license allows a full day program which CAN include a preschool program.

No, they went downtown to facilitate easier drop off and pick up. MUCH easier to have them go near work, not to mention the advantage of interesting company and lively conversation for the ride home! 🙂
