Accident at Dick’s

  • Post author:

We’re a day late on this, but Darwin reports an accident in front of Dick’s on 45th:

About 3:45 pm. Looked like bike put BIG dent in passenger door of blue SUV. Cyclist taken away in ambulance. Possibly SUV made left turn across path of bike while bike was EB? Seattle Fire took the bike away, looked like a fixie without brakes

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I am sorry to read this-
the worst accident we saw happen in Wallingford was also here –
10 years ago maybe, walking with my young child down the south side of 45th navigating the driveways aka sidewalks of Dicks –
grid lock for eastbound traffic –
an eastbound car allows a gap for a wetbound vehicle in the middle turning lane
    they dart into Dicks –
a cyclist happily flying down 45th passing the the stalled traffic and hits the car entering the parking lot…

sorry to hear it. No brakes? Riding a bike without brakes in the city makes no sense to me. Better suited for the velodrome at Marymoor Park.

I just moved out here from Capitol Hill and use a bike to get around everywhere. I have to say though that drivers out here are not nearly as aware of bikers as they could be. Even on bicycles with brakes they are not nearly as quick stopping as car brakes, it is all just hand power after all. I just want to remind people to use their blinkers. If I know where you are going then I can be sure not to be there.
