Street Scramble

  • Post author:

Last July, we noticed an odd phenomenon one weekend in Wallingford. Clusters of people pacing the neighborhood with their noses tucked into maps. Since there’s no greater pleasure than answering questions about something you know, we offered to help these lost souls find whatever it is they were looking for.

Turns out, it was enormous game, a sort of scavenger hunt, where locations were the object, part of the Seattle Street Scramble. 30 Locations around the University District and Wallingford are marked on a map, you and your team visit as many as you can by foot or bike in 90 minutes or 3 hours, and it’s back on this weekend, Sunday, April 25th. Visit the Street Scramble web site for all the deets.

The Scramble benefits the Elizabeth Gregory Home, which provides transitional housing, case management, and drop-in services to single adult women who are homeless in the Seattle and surrounding areas.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
