Wallingford 2.0

  • Post author:

The ballots for the Seattle 2.0 awards, the local tech start-ups’ self-congratulatory but nonetheless respectable (and fun) version of the Oscars are open, and, in the “Best Start-Up Designer” category, we have a Wallingford vs. Wallingford showdown:

  • Matt Lerner is the CTO of Front Seat, makers of Walkscore and City-Go-Round. Front Seat is a “civic software company”, specializing in socially progressive services that build communities (in the “real world” sense, not just in the “Facebook” sense). Matt has declined our frequent pleadings to write for Wallyhood, although his wisdom has found its way onto our pages.
  • Aviel Ginzburg is the CEO (and user experience designer) for Untitled Startup, a “transparent startup building social media solutions.” Their first product, it seems, is a voting system that allows you, the reader, to vote on what their other products should be. Very meta. These guys are all over the ballot, including Untitled Startup’s CTO (and Wallingford resident) Damon Cortesi for Best Technologist and the company’s blog for Best Entrepreneur Blog, so it must be something cool.

Also in the running for Best Start-Up Designer are Jenny Lam of Jackson Fish Market, Greg Bowers of TeachStreet and Alex Berg of WetPaint, but, to the best our knowledge, they don’t live in Wallingford, so, ya know, gotta root for the hometown heroes.

Vote local!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
