Wallingford Yard Art Map

  • Post author:

The Wallingford Art Walk is going to start up soon, but, as much as we love it, it’s only once per month. What are we supposed to do the other 30 days?

Well, we figured we could create a do-it-yourself art walk of Wallingford: a map of all the outdoor, free to visit pieces of art that are scattered around the neighborhood. We’ve started the map, below, but we were wondering if you could help us out, since we know that there are a lot more pieces that we’re missing.

The map is a publicly editable, so feel free to click on the link above, click edit and add your own markers. If you’re not feeling so handy, then leave us a comment below with the location and, if possible, a link to a photo, and we’ll add it for you.

Jordan

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

    Jordan– I don’t think this map is actually publicly editable. At least, I couldn’t find how to edit it.

    Great idea, Jordan!  Love it!

    @Andrew, oops, try again now.

    Not to be a downer, but apparently there have been a number of thefts of garden art in the area, particularly Ballard, in the past 2 weeks. It seems to be a case of professionals, considering they had to cut rebar in order to steal the whale eye sculpture from the Magnuson Children’s Garden. As much as I personally want to know where all the cool art is so I can go visit it, art owners may want to beware.

    Good tip, Kimberly!  I’m going to add a new mural I found recently on 35th… bet the crooks can’t steal it!

    All of us with walls built by the late Mike Knapp should post them as art to be admired by the public. Mike was a genius and a master artist! I don’t know how to add ours to the map, but we’re at 4802 Woodlawn AV N.

    Pat Maher did the Meridian park sculptures, he’s awesome!  you can take a class from him at Pratt if you like hammering metal

    I agree with Laura (as the proud owner of a rock wall by the late, extremely eccentric Mike Knapp).  I couldn’t figure out how to edit either, but I do believe I know most of them by heart and in sequence, and will happily take some pictures next weekend.

    To edit, click here and then click “Save to My Maps” button in the upper left. After that, you should see an “Edit” button.

    The easiest way to add something is to type its address, then click on the pushpin icon on that location and choose “Save to My Maps” and choose the map.

    Well, the easiest way to add something is just to post the address here or mail me an address and a photo, I’ll add it for you. How easy is that?

    Ah, Jordan…I can’t seem to save this into “My Maps” and then edit it.  For some reason, I’m only able to edit the description?  Strange.  Anyway, there’s a house on the corner of 51st and North Green Lake Way that has some great metal sculptures of a cowboy and steer.  Google Maps has it listed as 1406 N 51st St. Seattle, WA 98103, though the house faces North Green Lake Way, so…hmmm…Anyway, you can see them when you magnify the address.  So cool!
